Tidak hanya itu, kata Ahok, kenaikan pajak juga merupakan bentuk penyesuaian aturan pemerintah pusat. "Kalau ‎kami tidak mengikuti, kami akan disalahkan. Bisa-bisa masuk penjara nanti," ucap dia.

Ahok pun mengaku, walau besaran jumlah pajak jumlahnya mengalami kenaikan, dirinya tetap memberikan keringanan kepada warga miskin, yaitu potongan jumlah pajak yang dibayarkan sebesar 50 persen.

Kenaikan PBB terjadi karena pada tahun ini Dinas Pajak DKI Jakarta atas instruksinya telah menaikkan Nilai Jual Objek Pajak (NJOP) sebesar 120%-240% sesuai dengan lokasi wilayah.

‎Untuk mengajukan keringanan, warga dapat datang langsung ke kantor Unit Pelayanan Pajak Daerah (UPPD) terdekat dengan membawa sejumlah persyaratan. Warga akan diminta mengisi form yang nantinya dicek terlebih dulu oleh petugas apakah layak menerima keringanan PBB atau tidak. Keputusan keringan diberi paling lama 6 bulan setelah tanggal pengajuan permohonan.

Berdasarkan Peraturan Gubernur DKI Nomor 211 Tahun 2012 tentang Pemberian Pengurangan Pajak Bumi Dan Bangunan Perdesaan dan Perkotaan, disebutkan bahwa wajib pajak orang pribadi berpenghasilan rendah sehingga kewajiban membayar PBB sulit dipenuhi maka dapat mengajukan keringanan dengan syarat fotokopi KTP, fotokopi Kartu Keluarga, dan Surat pernyataan wajib pajak yang menyatakan bahwa penghasilan rendah dari tempat bekerja.

Selain itu, apabila wajib pajak tidak berpenghasilan harus dilengkapi dengan surat keterangan RT/RW diketahui Lurah setempat.
