Wanita asal Inggris mendengar suara seperti menggaruk di dalam kepalanya. Setelah diperiksa ternyata terdapat belatung pemakan daging yang hidup di telinga Rochelle Haris.

Wanita berusia 27 tahun ini mengatakan hal ini terjadi sepulangnya berlibur di Peru, Haris merasakan sakit kepala dan nyeri di satu sisi wajahnya dikutip Emirates, Rabu (21/8/2013).

Saat bangun Haris menemukan cairan di atas bantalnya. Berpikir hal tersebut infeksi telinga biasa akibat gigitan nyamuk, Haris melakukan pemeriksaan medis di Rumah Sakit Royal Derbi di Inggris utara.

Konsultan melihat belatung di lubang-lubang kecil di telinganya. "Saya sangat takut. Apakah mereka di otak saya?" kata Harris. Dokter mencoba tindakan pertama dengan menyiram belatung menggunakan minyak Zaitun.

"Itu adalah waktu terpanjang menunggu hal ini. Saya bisa merasakan mereka menggeliat dan perasaan saya memburuk," ungkapnya.

Ketika pembilasan keluarnya belatung gagal, petugas medis terpaksa operasi. Hal ini dilakukan untuk mengurangi kekhawatiran belatung tersebut dapat memakan bagian otaknya.

Menurut tim dokter serangga yang membawa telur belatung masuk ke dalam telinganya. "Saya tidak mengetahui ada serangga tiba-tiba belatung tgersebut sudah ada di dalam telinga saya," katanya.
