Atlet asal Sumatera Barat itu menghembuskan nafas terakhir usai mengalami kecelakaan di Jalan Raya Khatib Sulaiman, Kota Padang, Sumbar, Kamis (16/10).

"Ikbal kecelakaan saat mau pergi kuliah, dia mengalami cedera serius dan meninggal pada saat dibawa ke rumah sakit," kata Pelatih Kempo Sumbar, Nofrizal di Padang, Jumat (17/10/2014).

Ia mengatakan, saat ini jenazah Ikbal akan dikebumikan di Kecamatan Kuranji, Kota Padang.

Ia mengatakan, Ikbal merupakan salah satu atlet masa depan Sumbar yang akan dipersiapkan menghadapi Pekan Olahraga Nasional (PON) 2016 di Jawa Barat.

Selama menjalani karir sebagai atlet kempo, Ikbal katanya merupakan pribadi yang pantang menyerah dan punya semangat kerja keras dalam berlatih. "Ia merupakan salah satu atlet Indonesia yang pernah meraih medali perak SEA Games di Myanmar," katanya.

Dalam pergaulan sesama atlet, ia dikenal dengan sosok yang ramah, dan tidak sungkan bergaul dengan atlet dari cabang lain.

Sementara itu, Deri Fitri salah seorang rekan Ikbal dalam Pelatnas SEA Games lalu mengatakan, Ikbal adalah pribadi yang baik, ia juga bertekad bisa menyumbangkan medali emas bagi Sumbar pada PON 2016.

"Selama ini Ikbal berkeinginan bisa menorehkan prestasi bagi atlet Sumbar pada PON mendatang," katanya.

Ikbal katanya, juga suka mengajari teman-temannya dalam hal latihan fisik maupun teknik. "Ia pribadi yang supel, sangat bersemangat dalam berlatih dan suka berbagi ilmu dalam latihan," kata Deri. (Ant) Blog Template Free Word
