Tercatat lebih dari 527 desa di sekitar perkebunan sawit anggota GAPKI terlibat program pencegahan dan penanggulangan kebakaran lahan.

“Hasilnya sepanjang tahun ini, tidak ada kebakaran lahan di dalam areal konsesi di dalam perusahaan. Sedangkan, kebakaran yang terjadi di lahan masyarakat juga bisa diantisipasi dan dikendalikan sehingga tidak sampai meluas,” kata Sekjen GAPKI Togar Sitanggang dalam keterangannya di Jakarta, Rabu (14/9/2016).

Program ini, kata Togar, merupakan inisiatif perusahaan anggota GAPKI bersama Pemerintah, Polri, TNI, Badan Penanggulangan Bencana Daerah (BPBD), dan masyarakat sekitar.
Pelibatan masyarakat ini terbukti efektif untuk mengendalikan kebakaran lahan. Menurut data yang dikumpulkan dari anggota GAPKI, tidak ada titik api di dalam areal konsesi perusahaan.

Laporan dari Global Forest Watch (GFW) menunjukkan jumlah titik api (hot spot) periode 1 Januari 2016 – 31 Agustus 2016 sebagian besar terjadi di luar konsesi perusahaan.

Rinciannya, konsesi hutan tanaman industri (HTI) atau pulpwood sebesar 18 persen, konsesi perusahaan sawit 9 persen, konsesi logging persen, dan mayoritas terjadi di luar konsesi/kawasan hutan yang mencapai 69 persen.

Program pencegahan dan penanggulangan kebakaran lahan dikemas dalam berbagai nama antara lain Masyarakat Peduli Api oleh PT Astra Agro Lestari Tbk, Desa Siaga Api oleh Grup Sinar Mas, Desa Bebas Api oleh Asian Agri, Masyarakat Bebas Api oleh Musim Mas Grup, Desa Bebas Kebakaran oleh Grup Triputra, Kelompok Tani Peduli Api oleh Grup Sampoerna Agro, dan sebagainya.

Program ini terutama dilaksanakan di Provinsi Riau, Jambi, Sumatera Selatan, Kalimantan Selatan, Kalimantan Tengah dan Kalimantan Barat. Perusahaan anggota GAPKI lainnya juga mengemas kegiatan penanggulangan dan pencegahan kebakaran lahan ini dalam program CSR.
